    I don’t understand the problem of the ’caused from nothing’. Nothing isn’t something that requires any resistance to overcome, the universe isn’t impelled to have come into existence with this obstacle. Nothing is nothing, existence has always been.

    Also, if science admits of a time where the big bang becomes imperceptible, how can we know we don’t exist in a time of imperceptibility to another event?

    The hair-brain (I claim with religious conviction, and if you don’t agree with me you shall be funked in the bunghole by Eva Braun with a strap-on), whose brain obviously grew out and got aired out, repeatedly CLAIMS causality, and then just drops a tautology “everything that exists has to have a cause” , fails to comprehend (and how th fuck would he be able to) that there WERE NO LAWS OF PHYSICS as we observe them today, simply because there WERE NO UNIVERSE before the big bang.

    Why CLAIM causality in a “non-universe” or however you want to call it.
    Perhaps it was just an accident of nothingness or “anti-thingness” rearranging itself.
    Rather than “god” – a being outside of being, going: ” Oh sh1te ! I think I just sharted !”

    @yermomsboxx The douchebag stands in the position of power and comfort in the most backward, religion infested sh1thole that is the US – the Saudi Arabia of christianity. Of course he can be dismissive, nonchalant, magnanimous and even “likable”. Personally, I see the garbage as obnoxious and offensive.

    @samOFblorx He’s trying to salvage what’s left of the reputation known to the audience which Hitchens just demolished.

    I love how Christopher is just talking over Ben Stein. I don’t know why Stein keeps interjecting himself into the debate. It’s supposed to be a debate between Mr. Hitchens and Mr. Richards.

    @DoNotBeHighandMighty I don’t think he tried squirming out of the question at all. It’s simply a question he’s not best qualified to answer effectively, and I doubt you’d find anyone without a comprehensive understanding of physics that would be.

    Look at Hitchens try squirming out of the question about matter and it’s existence LOL.

    Right on! There is no better example of cognitive and genetic dysfunction than doing something detrimental (let alone mortally violent) to one’s own child.

    As much as I like Hitchens, I was kind of surprised by the likeability/live-and-let-live attitude of Richards. Much more bearable than the usual Hitchens opponent.

    What a fucking idiot! What right does Ben have to ask Hitchens his thoughts on abortion?! That’s completely off-topic! He just doesn’t like the fact Hitchens wiped the floor with Jay.

    Who , exactly, is Hitch debating here?
    Why was Ben Stein there?
    Does Hitch start off debates with a handicap now?
    I love how everytime Stein interjects, Hitch just verbally spits in his face.

    Learn your definitions. Space and time ARE unique to our universe, because there can’t be other universes. If it existed, it would be in this universe.

    Stein does not realize how much he embodies the mentality of Christians. His dismissal of 5 Billion years parallels his idiot followers complete inablity to comprehend the 4.5 billion years that life has been evolving on this planet.

  19. needparalegal says:

    @rkyeun Expand your mind, space time may be unique to our universe. Nothing in human cosmological science explores unrelated universes.That does not mean that other things do not exist in a non-space time form in other completely alien realities. Yes, quantum universes are inherently linked to our own, but do not preclude the possibility of non-quantum non-paralell universes completely unconnected to our universe.

  20. rkyeun says:

    @needparalegal
    Yes. I’m explicitly dismissing that. By definition of “universe” and “exist”, anything that exists is part of the universe and is thus not outside or beyond it. The universe might have more layers than we currently understand, but there’s not anything outside it. If you want to posit that the Big Bang is not the beginning of time and existence, I’m fine with that though until more evidence comes in.

    @rkyeun You are dismissing that there may be energy beyond/outside the universe that may have started our universe. There also may be a mechanism of deficit spending of energy. Perhaps negative and positive energy separated from a void to create energy/mater while still conserving total energy at zero.

    If I had been up on that stage and Ben Stein said “something from nothing”, I would have leaped over the podium and beat the straw man right out of him.

  23. rkyeun says:

    @TheWeiWuWei
    There wasn’t even a before.
    It wasn’t something from nothing. There was neither nothing nor the from. It was just… SOMETHING!

  24. TheWeiWuWei says:
    July 26, 2010 at 5:37 pm

    @rkyeun What I wonder quite often is why Hitchens (admirable as his dialectics are) and others don’t take issue with is the fallacy of “something from nothing.” There is no basis to my mind for saying that there was nothing before there was something, nor any other quality of what existed prior to the big bang. The closest I’ve heard to an explanation at all is m-theory, for which I hope research will shed new light.
