@tonyschmoeredux I’m don’t know how you’d conclude that. It’s been proven many times that there is a link between intelligence and atheism. The statistics are there. You only need to ask any theist scientist why they believe. Invariably they have this feeling that it all couldn’t just happen. They cant base it off of scientific proof, because there is none.

It’s fair. Every atheist I have ever met arrives there from religious beginnings and finding reasons based on analysis and logic. Every theist believes in God because they just have that feeling.
Harris is equating skeptical inquirey with atheism or non-theism.
Wolpe is not very good at presenting logical thoughts.

@chadlerb the best preacher you know is a scientist does not mean he is a respected and great scientist in his academic community. Its just your opinion that he is good. Thats utter bullshit about “only God can change your heart”. The truth is that “only you!” and noone externally can change your own heart!!
Its because what we dont know, MAY not actually exist and therefore is not important for our existence. Besides we’ve existed way before the bible or koran was even written. You dont need God to be happy. Remember this, All holy books are lies of men to control other men. However, to cover up a single lie “God exists”, you need to invent more lies to cover it up and hence, you end up with a big fat holy book and a bunch of stupid doctrines, and theology which the bulk of believers never read.
If you follow Christ, you don’t have to throw away science. The best preacher I know is a scientist at the University of Michigan. You see, true Christianity isn’t a religion, its a change of heart. You find God in your soul. Only God can change your heart, but Christ died to save us from sin and death. It isn’t a trap of beliefs, He truly is liberating. I know this from personal experience. God gave a free gift of eternal life, when Christ died for our sins on the cross. Take that gift.

Yeah, but the difference is science is always refining and evolving to answer bigger questions, while religion remains static in its 1st century methodology.
both of these people are deceived from the truth, they just know a lot of big words and remembered a lot of historical facts so they sound smart. All you people miss the point. Religion is created by man. Science is interpreted by man. We judge God, a being that is being defined as creating the universe by the interpretations of man. How are we as finite beings possibly to understand an eternal being. 70 years vs infinite years. If we think we can find out the truth we are all ignorant.
