Im atheist but I respect Farther Coyne from watching this, after all he is right that science can’t explain everything yet. I think maybe in the future religion and science will kind of merge together to have the benefits of both like the morals and the knowledge.
@NoCrispin Hahahaha, that’s very true. But that’s what you get after years after years of trying to rationalize to yourself your ridiculous beliefs. No wonder he is so good at it, if he wasn’t he wouldn’t be in that position in the first place.
@S0chan it’s so amazing infact that this should be an olympic event or something. These are some serious mental gymnastics.
He was doing alright till he declared his belief that someone got pregnant despite being a virgin
Why keep looking for God you think is there? In another sentense you know hes there, but don’t have the science to prove it. Science gives the answer but religion refuses it.. I see now…
Best. Preacher. Ever.
I don’t think religious would bother me nearly at all were they more like this man.
Good point. However, I believe in this case the actual beliefs for either religion are irrelevant.
Just a side note regarding the virgin birth. Richard poses the question that if George was born into Islam, then naturally he wouldn’t believe in the virgin birth, to which he agrees. In fact, the Islamic faith also believe that the prophet Issa (Jesus) was born the virgin Miriam (Mary), so they are both mistaken in this issue.
It amazes me to no end that religion can make even someone as intelligent as George jump through all these illogical hoops just to rationalize something so irrational.
How can you have this amount of knowledge and understanding both of the world and religion and still believe it I will probably never understand.
every part i appreciate geroge even more. . . this guys is saying pretty much everything i believe in for the place of faith. . . all church sermons should be have this debate on a big screen
He’s got a Philly/Maryland/Delaware accent
@domertone based on a very popular and powerful misunderstanding of Christianity first proposed by the Egyptian cleric Arian. This was dealth with at Niceas. No surprise that Mohammed would have incorporated this into his scheme in order to sway the disaffected Arian Christians to his cause.
Name dropped Carl Sagan a little bit.
The Qur’an does say that Mary was a virgin when she conceived Jesus. It also says that Jesus only appeared to be crucified, and that he was actually raised up to Heaven without dying.
@domertone
so muslims do believe in the virgin birth? is it written in the koran, doesnt the koran have its own version of the ressurecton though? just asking
He is sooo sick ..There is no god .. You got to prove there is before you can say there is one. And if there was you have to explain that to. They will do anything for money. Wow lmfao again.
Muslims believe in the Virgin Birth. Just sayin’.
Jim1905 was right when he said ‘belief and imagination that is the soul of science’
I’m also doing a physics degree and I don’t believe in God, but science is all about theories, pushing boundaries (by putting faith in a hypothesis) and a belief in the fact that we can understand and learn more than we already know.
If you don’t think that a large part of science is believing then you don’t know enough about science.
How would you feel if you finally realize you have spent the last 30-40 years of your life worshiping something you no longer believe in? I have a lot of respect for men like this
Carl and George were very good friends
im getting confused now why does this prist believe in god when he is a smart guy i thought they where all dumbasses
cant believe he was friends with carl sagan, this guy seems really cool actually
@sfmike20
I think he is an atheist. He is just doing mental gymnastics to avoid admitting it.
you said “the soul of science”???? there is no such thing. science is made of facts, evidence, and truth. a soul is imaginary and doesn’t has no scientific facts or evidence. People naturally have love and take care for other people just like a lion loves and takes care of her cubs. Love and taking care is apart of survivalism and instinct in living organisms. There is no evidence of a soul, god, devil, or anything supernatural. imagination is not knowledge (guessing is not knowing)
I wish Richard asked him weather the frequency of miracles is really just blind chance.
