Regev, CBS news 9.39 am, Sep 12th 2001, Internet Archive. VERY INTERESTING!!!
As for black Jews from the USA specifically–most such people are converts–and although Israel confers citizenship on converts, the rabbinical religious establishment–which is dominated by petty bureaucrats, decides on the validity of the conversions performed outside of Israel. In the case of non-Orthodox conversions, none are recognized–and they are getting even pickier about which Orthodox rabbis meet their criteria. White or Asian converts from the USA often have the same frustrations.
“There is not a racial harmony in Israel…especially difficult for black jews from america to receive citizenship, but they allow basketball players who are christian to receive citizenship”
I never said that Israel had total “harmony”. Israelis are often a diverse, acrimonious lot.
@MikhaelMeir not all of your comments are totally correct. Israel provides more assistance to European jews then to jews of color. There is not a racial harmony in Israel. I have seen it especially difficult for black jews from america to receive citizenship, but they allow basketball players who are christian to receive citizenship. Though things might look like harmony on the surface. Behind that layer there is alot of deceit.
lol. shameful
notice how mark keeps saying, i want to work with the red cross, not to agree with them, but to work with them, hes says that 3 or 4 times, so until the red cross reads off the same script as him he will not agree with them. gorbels the propaganda minester comes to mind.
i bet mark gave his lie prodution team a good fcuking for not seen this comming, the agent for murder cover ups.
Although Israel is not a state founded on racial distinction, it is founded on a principle of national distinction. In that respect, it is no different from the majority of democratic nation states in Europe and Asia. The Republic of Korea is a Korean state, Finland is a Finnish state. They both extend easy citizenship to people belonging to their nationality–e.g., ethnic Koreans from China easily gain Korean citizenship, but ethnic Chinese in Korea have a harder time obtaining it.
You are clearly very confused. A state founded on “racial distinction” means that it would assert that there is some unique biological property that must be safeguarded. Anyone who has been to Israel and seen the diversity of Israeli society and the reality of Israelis who trace their roots to various Diaspora communities constantly intermingling and intermarrying with each other, without regard to color, would be hard-pressed to call this a society devoted to “racial distinction”.
israel is a racist state. fact
With a comment like that- I think it is possible for anyone reading this to disregard your previous assertion that Israel is not a state founded on the principles of racial distiction… A racist state….
point in fact is that the red cross is not a military agency of any kind, and if they are brave enough to go into a warzone to help children that have nothing to do with fighting, then israel has no place in preventing the red cross from doing humanitarian Job. Problem with you israelis is that you have developed such a hatred of all people that live in gaza including the innocent children. You have let your hearts become cold, open your hearts with warmth and compassion Let love rule.
what a dumbfuck.. NOT UNDER FIRE? LAWLL man.. we have shoted from snipers from any building.. what an OLD scumbag 0o .. infact what about the rockets on israel?.. and as a soldier.. we got fired.. from Aks To RPGs
“the less powerful side is very often the winning side (hence the reason why asyemtric warfare happens)”
The weaker side can win in an asymmetric warfare situation as long as the more powerful side deliberately and foolishly hobbles itself when fighting against them, as Israel has, in the interest of limiting civilian casualties(whilst Hamas is not bound to such rules). Sri Lanka, Russia, and even Syria successfully defeated terror groups by not being mindful of civilian casualties.
“Even though racial purity is not a essential, a shared genetic background is a core issue…..”
As I stated before, converts to Judaism are eligible to apply for citizenship. Of course, many in the anti-Zionist crowd decry that policy as evidence of Israel favoring “foreigners”, rather than “natives”…but you can’t have it both ways-because then you are insisting that the Palestinian Arabs alone have some pure “racial” right to this land (despite the fact they are a diverse group as well.)
“You lose, you leave” is standard. It’s the reason why the ethnic Germans had to leave Czechoslovakia and Poland. Or Japanese had to leave the Kurile Islands. Or ethnic Georgians recently had to leave the areas of separatist South Ossetia last fall. War sucks, and it sucks worse for the losing side. However, in the examples I just mentioned, all these peoples had countries which accepted their ethnic brothers and absorbed them. Palestinian Arabs were denied this by their fellow Arabs and used.
“any entitlement whatsoever by that tribes genetic lienage to that land in the 21st century…”
Hamas and other fanatic, radical fundamentalist groups constantly invoke Islamic religious justification as to why “Palestine” (ironically, a term nowhere found in the Quran or the Sunnah or the Hadith, or in Islamic history) must remain a Muslim Waqf in perpetuity. The “secular” PLO also used racial essentialist justifications of “Palestine” as an exclusively Arab land. You approve of this?
“The Jews have had a presence agreed- However NOT as a nation. You are claiming a presence of the Jews as a race. Now how about you stop fiddling the definitions and speak straight!”
I’ve been speaking very straight. Jews are *NOT* a “race”. Jews are a nation, like most other nations, we use criteria such as shared ancestry (but not solely) to determine membership in the Jewish nation. Like other nations, we have a homeland, and like all nations we have a right to self-determination.
“You know the parameters,… you might not like them or agree with them but they are pretty damn clear.”ive up land that hasd
Yes, I do know the parameters. There is a consensus in Israel that we must give up areas that have a majority-Arab population and allow the formation of a second Palestinian Arab state (Jordan is the first). If the Arabs of the West Bank/Gaza truly desire independence and self-rule in their own state, they will accept it in an area less than “all” of the pre-67 borders.
“rovided physical symbol of the Palestinians grievances about israel used to succesfully substantiate thier position to peopel the world over”
I’m much more interested in the concrete fact that it has saved countless Israeli lives. If anything, it should be a powerful, tangible physical symbol of the lengths to which Israel values human life and is willing to protect all of its citizens from barbaric terrorism.
“you might feel the wall is justified in that it has stopped some forms of action against Israel…”
Yes, I’m sure you regret that it has been effective at limiting the number of Israelis killed (1000 Israelis were killed in suicide bombings from the start of the Intifada before the wall was constructed). Bear in mind, the extreme Israeli right-wing also objected to the wall as they do not wish to see any division of Eretz Yisrael either, but it’s saved many lives.
It wasn’t BBC, it was Channel 4…and freedom of the press is quite a lovely thing. Nevertheless, this man was not a journalist, and he didn’t conducted an interview, but an interrogation. None of our neighbors would have tolerated this line of questioning, and Regev handled himself with aplomb. A few days’ delay during a sensitive military operation does not equal banning press coverage. Sri Lanka did not permit any coverage in its campaign against LTTE, neither did Russia against the Chechens.
Crap land? The only reason we’re willing to give it up is too many Arabs live there, and one would expect that they would wish not to be ruled over us and accept a chance at true independence. As for Israel’s demand that any future Palestinian state be demilitarized, tell me, why do they need an air force and a navy, or a tank division? Tell me why it’s in our interest to support that. How about this, if “Palestine” gets threatened by Iran or Syria, we’ll defend them!
They also provided for Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and Jericho (something that was complied with at the outset) and latter agreements had Israel ceding other areas of the WB/Gaza to PNA control. But the Oslo Agreements were not final status and nowhere did they specify complete Israeli withdrawal to the pre-1967 borders. Camp David 2000 was an attempt at a final status offer by Israel that was rejected by Arafat et Co when they launched Intifada #2, they won’t get a better deal than that.
“f you expect teh Palestinians to agree to anything less than the Oslo Agreement”?
The Oslo Agreement doesn’t demand that Israel withdraw to the 1949 Armistice Line between Israel and Jordan (aka the pre-June 1967 borders) it very deliberately leaves the final disposition of the disputed areas open-ended. The various Oslo Agreements did provide for Israeli recognition of the PLO as the “sole representative of the Palestinian people”, the establishment of the Palestinian Nat. Authority (ct’d)
