Although Tucker, formerly a professional cantor at the Brooklyn Jewish Center in NYC, remained devout in the Jewish faith throughout his life, he did record a few Christian pieces during his career. This is a recording from 1967 (or 68?), singing the Lord’s Prayer. One of the best renditions I’ve ever heard. The lyrics for this piece are taken directly from the King James version of the New Testament, book of Matthew, chapter 6, verses 9-13 (Matthew 6:9–13). “After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.” Another version of this prayer appears in the book of Luke, chapter 11, verses 2-4 (Luke 11:2–4). “And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in Heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.” The former version is more widely known than the latter. Enjoy this wonderful rendition.
