For them, it was an indistinct part of a larger geographic entity, Bilad ash-Sham (usually translated as Syria or Greater Syria). Nor did it have a territorial division of any name that corresponded in its boundaries even roughly to those of the political entity Palestine named and set up by the international community at San Remo in 1920.
The name Palestine doesn’t originate with Arabs or Palestinians.
It derives from Roman Empire terminology and had fallen into abeyance for centuries until early modern Christian West, moved by a resurgent interest in science and classical culture, revived its usage.

@koioo2 You are right. Both sides are playing a foolish game. The question is if anyone really wants peace. In 2003 the Israeli government pulled out completely from Gaza. The number of people killed after that was astronomic. Some people in Israel say that arabs see concessions as weakness. I would like to believe that it is not in Hamas interest to have peace. Destroying Hamas power is the only key to peace. Egypt understands that. Let us hope that the rest of the arab world also understands

I will answer! Peace can be achieved when the palestinian people will be so lucky as to merit a courageous leader like president Anwar El Sadet of Egypt (who was assassinated for this act) and like King hussein of Jordan to whom the true welfare of their people is detrimental. Fortunately, a good part of palestinians are influenced by preident Mahmud Abbas. Unfortunately, his efforts to unite the hopefully near-coming Palestinina state is thwarted by Hamas fundamentalists.
