The way I see it, the only reason people believe in an afterlife is because they do not want to accept the fact that once you are gone, you are gone.
I have been raised in a stuck-up Christain family all of my life and the thought of their being a God in the sky that will give you a horrible afterlife if you do not worship him is quite crazy.
I still believe in God anyways, I mean I’d rather like a life thinking thier is no God and die to find out their isn’t… You know where I’m going.
silly delusional people, gotta love em. churches are great social clubs, most go for the women and the food

Dear friend, please do not miss-understand me, I never said “only a fool would not believe in God” I said “only a fool would say there is no God” big difference, not believing in and saying there is no are two completely different things. Friend my hearts breaks for you that you lost your mum and I cry for you. Please believe you will see your mum again and Do take comfort from God who loves you both very much. @gyruss73 I think you will find they are intelligent and heartfelt enough to call them selves Agnostic. The members of XTC can not and do not know all things, so at best they simply do not know, which makes them agnostic. This is a very important distinction. I think XTC employ the use of antithesis to marvelous effect (ie “dear” god {whom the don’t believe in or think is dear to them}). As for “evidence” of God.. everything, everywhere simply is not enough for you, what can I say but bless you
@gyruss73 more than one.You will see your mother again.The fact that you exist at all, the heavens that are above you, the life that humans crush, kill all the time are a gift that God gave you that keeps on giving. When some has unconditional love loving enemy their enemy insomuch that they do not have enemies to love is evidence of God. This God can be in you as well, when that happens people will be good to each other, life around them too,? loving the zoosexual, gay, furry, whoever too.
I thought Andy Partridge was agnostic.
@gyruss73 not being mean but the song is in fact about god but what he is saying is that you shouldn’t relay on god when everything in life goes wrong because you have to make the things you want happen yourself
one of my all time favs. A timeless classic. One of those rare instances in pop music where lyrics take on a life of their own. These lyrics resonate with millions across the world. Now more than ever it is important to take a second look at that which is callled “Religion.” Cheers to XTC for bringing us closer to light.

When I said “And hes not, cuz we created him…get it”. I was still explaining my interpretation of what I think HES saying. Not MY SOLE OPINION.I actually take comfort in God. I lost my mom in ’95 and I like to hope Ill see her again someday. But as far as calling anyone a FOOL for not believing in god is just plain ignorant. Atheists have a good case no? Give me 1 shred of evidence that God is real. NOT JESUS..GOD. Give me one.

@gyruss73 How do you account for the line “if your up there you’d perceive, that my heart’s here upon my sleeve”. Why would he sing to a God who was not there, or at minimal he is saying he wishes he could believe but can’t and he lists the reasons why. Only a fool would say “there is no God” who can know that?He does say “dear God, I can’t believe in, I wont believe in”, he does NOT say God does not exist. He is almost crying in anguish through out the song, he cares for those lost and dead.

I just dont belive in humanity and that a human is capable of doing thins without getting something in return, as you said, a child can share his toys, but in my eyes it all comes down to him wanting something in return later.
But then again, this is my way to see things.
Btw, sorry for not replying earlier, just moved out of my home and all the way acros the world to study. So I’ve been alittle busy.

What hes saying in my opinion is that our mankind today is a product of a bullshit cycle that shouldnt have happened. Hes saying WE created God. And then weve taken that same god, and are now worshipping him, and going along the whole time as if God is real. And hes not, cuz we created him…Get it.
At least thats the best explanation I can give.
